Holdiay Promo Tour Day 6: Amber R. Polk

About the Author:

Oklahoma, and now resides in Western Arkansas. Although her husband disagrees, she will always consider herself an Okie and proud of it. She is a great cook (don't fact check with her children) and loves spending her time getting kicked off go-cart tracks for aggressive driving. If you have any questions or comments you can find her on Facebook (she's always there).

Survive:

Veronica Williams and her brother, Jacob, are struggling to survive on their family’s orchard after a mysterious plague wiped out two-thirds of the world’s population. She thinks her chances are slim to none of ever finding love in this new, perilous world.

When Luke Grislon stumbles upon their haven, she takes one look into his silver eyes and knows nothing will ever be the same again. Is it possible to believe that there is still humanity in an inhumane world? Can she trust the way this stranger makes her feel when she knows he has his own secrets?

There will come a time when he will leave, but will he be taking her heart with him? Or will his secrets destroy them all?

Review:

I literally just finished this book the other day and have to say, this was an incredible book that completely took me by surprise. The descriptions of the characters, their personalities and the world they lived in were so carefully created and well written that it became a driving force that made me want to know more about them. The story does start out slow, but if given the chance, it will completely astound you. I thought I figured out what would happen, and was floored by the ending. I am very much looking forward to the next installment in this series.

Super Chick (The Dynamic Divas Book 1)

Can you keep a secret?

Megan McAlister will do just about anything to keep the people of Hope, Oklahoma from learning her secret. But, when she witnesses a kidnapping her hopes for a normal life could come crashing down around her.

Finding herself confronted by the one man she wants to avoid, Detective Drew Calloway, she realizes the only way to get him out of her life is to use her power to find his sister—without becoming a government lab rat. When a mysterious stranger arrives in town with knowledge of her secret, and has secrets of her own, her once quiet life is tossed into chaos.

Questioning everything she thought she knew, she has to decide if she wants to go back to the safe life she had, or the life Drew is offering.

Our Interview with Amber R. Polk

Tell us a about yourself.
I was born and raised in Oklahoma, lived in Colorado for four years, back to Oklahoma, and now in Arkansas.  I have a gaggle of children and a military man of my dreams. I love all things nerdy and fun and often laugh at inappropriate times.

How long have you been writing and what inspired you to write?
I have been writing, literally, for as long as I can remember.  My first book was The Purple Unicorn in the third grade (a friend still has the book somewhere).  Writing has always been a need in my life.  It’s my oxygen.

Tell me a little about your book.
My first book, Survive, is a post-apocalyptic romance.  It is about a brother and sister who have survived a plague that has wiped out 2/3rd of the world’s population.  A stranger has stumbled onto their safe haven with gorgeous eyes and too many secrets. As much as Veronica believes there is still humanity in the world, the world keeps proving her wrong.  Can she trust the person her heart wants or will his secrets destroy them all?
My second book, Super Chick, is a romantic comedy with a little super power thrown in.  Megan has spent her life avoiding getting too close to anyone to keep her secret, but when she witnesses the sister of her long time crush being kidnapped she is forced to come out of her solitary life.

Who has been your greatest writing inspiration?
I had a great opportunity in college to hear Billie Letts speak.  As it turned out, I accidentally spent the day with her and hung on her every word.  She gave me confidence and was the first person to tell me I was already an author.  It’s Billie Letts, who wouldn’t believe her?

Now a little more about you: If you were stranded on a desert island, what three items would you bring (excluding family, laptop, or writing utensils)?
Knife (because seriously, you would need a knife). Lipton tea bags. Sunscreen (I’m pasty and freckled)

We find out the world is going to end tomorrow. How do you live your last day?
Hopefully Oia, Greece with my kids and husband watching the sunset.
.
If we were to make a movie of your life. Who would play the part of you?
Laura Pepron mixed with Adriana Lima (in reality it’s probably Molly Shannon mixed with Tina Fey)

Tell us 5 random things about yourself.
I’m tall.  I’m a little over 5’ 10”. I’ve been referred to as an Amazon (which I like, but refuse to cut off my right breast for the sake of hunting).
I have the humor of a 14 year old boy.
I could eat sushi every day.
I’m a jack of all trades.  If something interests me, I have to know everything about it.  I can change your alternator and crochet you a scarf, all while churning butter!
I’m an English major, but my day job is in accounting.  I honestly don’t know how that happened.

What are the three places you have always wanted to visit but have not yet?
Greece, Italy, Canada (I love maple syrup and lumberjacks)

Okay, crystal ball time. Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?

I want to simplify my life by then!  All of my children will be graduated from high school and college by then and I want a smaller house, smaller car, and a bigger bank account balance.  Also, writing fulltime and not working in accounting!
