Book Review: Changing Roles by Ellie Masters

About the Author:

Ellie Masters has been exploring the worlds of romance, dark erotica, science fiction, and fantasy, by reading and writing the stories she wants to read. When not writing, Ellie can be found outside, where her passion for all things outdoor reigns supreme: ATV-ing, scuba diving, hiking, and breathing fresh air are top on her list.

With the release of her debut novel, Ellie is pleased to add 'author' to her life's list of accomplishments. Wife, lover, and mother are her most treasured roles, but Ellie has played many parts: counter girl at a McDonalds, a research assistant in a Nanofabrication facility, a rocket scientist who designed ICBM guidance systems, and a physician. Which only proves anything in life is possible if you set goals and never give up.

She has lived all over the United States, East, West, North, South and central, but grew up under the Hawaiian sun. She's also been privileged to have lived overseas, experiencing other cultures and making lifelong friends. Now, Ellie is proud to call herself a Southern transplant, learning to say y'all, over yonder, and 'bless her heart' with the best of them. She lives with her beloved husband, two children who refuse to flee the nest, and four fur-babies; three cats who rule the household, and a dog who wants nothing other than for the cats to be his best friends. The cats are of a different mind regarding this matter.

Ellie's favorite way to spend an evening is curled up on a couch, laptop in place, watching a fire, drinking a good wine, and bringing forth all the characters from her Mind-to-the-Page and eventually into the hearts of her readers.

To follow the leads, she must reenter the world that destroyed her career and go undercover as a submissive to a noted Dom. Only Kate swore she'd never endure the submissive role again.

Review: 5 out of 5 *****

Do you ever have a book that you read the synopsis and were so curious about the book you couldn't wait to read it? That's how I felt about Changing Roles. From the teasers and synopsis, I was hooked and desperately wanted to read the book. I can honestly say, I had high expectations for this book, and had each one filled and then some.
The characters were well thought out and could feel their emotions as you read the story. You could sense the apprehension in Kate, hating the thought of trusting and submitting to another man, given her past. But Jake continued to chip away at the wall she put up in hopes of winning her heart.
The writing was incredible, and the plot was absolutely amazing. I look forward to the next book Ellie Masters releases.

Review: 4 out of 5 ****

I was quite impressed by Avon. It started out a bit slow for my taste and felt like it took a while to really get into the book. However, the author's writing was impeccable. He was so descriptive with everything right down to the minor details. The story itself was very interesting. Once I settled in, it was hard to put the book down.

Chasing Lyrics is the first book in the Music & Lyrics Series!

Review: 5 Stars*****

Let me start off by saying this book was incredible. I loved everything about this book, including the little twist at the end. Tanner and Dylan (aka Lyrics) were great together and had an amazing friendship that finally turned into something more. Chasing Lyrics was a nice quick read, very descriptive and had enough of the sex to plot ratio that kept you enticed and pleased with how hot and heavy the scenes were, as well as had a great plot that kept me wanting to read more. I am now chomping at the bit for the second book in the series.

Book Review: Carnal Recovery (Book 3 in the Curvy Assignments Series) By Victoria Bright

About the Author

A North Carolina native, Victoria Bright currently resides in Lillington, NC. You can usually find her hoarding bottles of Cool Blue Gatorade, playing The Sims when not writing, or obsessing over Camaros.

Carnal Recovery

I thought no one could tame me until I met him…

My life revolved around two things— sex and power. As a sex therapist, I helped couples with their intimacy issues while appearing to lead a typical single life. Although I lived a civilized life during the day, by nightfall I transformed into my sadistic, dominating persona.

When a session with my submissive left him severely injured, I found myself sitting in Xavier Bennett’s office for court-ordered therapy. It was one thing to reveal the skeletons in my closet, but it was a different ball game to confess these demons to my colleague. Little did I know, he harbored dark secrets of his own.

After receiving an invitation to assist Xavier with his marriage retreat, I soon learn his intentions weren't what they seemed. What I thought would be a relaxing work-related vacation turned into a mental bloodbath as we both fought for dominance. Walls will come tumbling down and someone’s bound to get hurt.

There can only be one Master.
Who will come out on top and who will surrender?

Review

This is the third book in the Curvy Assignments Series, and damn this one was intense. This was the book I had been looking forward to since book 1 and I was not disappointed. This book is taken entirely from Gia's point of view and gave a deep insight into her life. Despite having some demons and baggage to work through, Gia finds someone that matched her sexually. I also loved that Arianna and Zane were brought back to keep the characters from the first two books still involved in the story. The only problem I had with the book was the occassional insert of random words or miss-typed words.

Review:

The book was a little hard to get into at first, but quickly drew my attention. The characters were interesting, witty, and a realistic feel to them. As much as I liked the book, I did find a few things that took away from thoroughly enjoying it. The first happened to be the length of the book. I am all for reading a long book, but kept feeling like the end was coming soon and I was still at 60%. The only other thing that bothered me was the point of view. In some areas, it was difficult to tell whose perspective I was reading (Derek or Samantha). The bigger problem was the random interjection of Elizabeth's perspective. Despite finding it a bit predictable, I thought the book was well written and had an interesting plot.

Book Review: My Secret Submission by J.M. Witt

About the Author

I'm a stay-at-home mom with four young children and one extremely supportive husband. We've been married for over ten years and reside in Metro Detroit, Michigan.

I've dreamed of writing romance novels since I was little. After having baby #4, who may or may not have been fathered by Christian Grey, I decided it was time to pursue my dreams.

When I'm not running to various appointments, enjoying time with my friends and my family, dating my husband, or avoiding cleaning my house, I'm writing!

I love music and believe that books and music can't exist without the other. My goal is for you to read more than a good book, but for you to have an experience

My Secret Submission

18+ only. Standalone, taboo, BDSM romance.

Meredith Nichols. I’m the epitome of a good wife and a good mom. I’m President of the PTA, I volunteer in my children’s classrooms, and I moonlight as a freelance editor for romance authors. No one suspects what secret desires lurk below the surface, except my husband. I’ve openly tried to persuade him to join me in my fantasies, but he’s refused over and over again.

Then, I met Gregor Thompson. Our worlds collided one fateful day and there was no turning back. He’s a mystery, intriguing, dominant, and has the same struggles at home that I do. He’s opened my mind to the possibility that my fantasies can indeed be met and that he’s the man to mentor me. He’s infiltrated my brain and seems to know my wants and needs before I express them.

It’s time to be who I was meant to be, get what I want, what I need, and forget what society thinks. I’m going to let Gregor take me on a journey of self-discovery to places most are unwilling to go. We all have a public life, a private life, and a secret life… He would be mine.

He was my safe place, my secret escape.
He was my Sir.
He was My Secret Submission.

18+ due to content. Warning: contains adultery which may be triggers for some people.

Review:
This book seemed to move very slow (I spent an hour on the train reading it, and only reached 10%). The back and forth emails were a bit annoying, as they took up most of the content within the chapters. The other part that bothered me about the emails was the author continued to put the actual email addresses and signatures from both emails. I found myself skipping pages or skimming through them just to get through the book. Unfortunately, I couldn't connect with the characters and felt there wasn't enough of a BDSM element to the story.

Book Review: Smite by Eden Rose

About the Author

Hello! My name is Eden Rose and its a pleasure to meet you. I have been writing for a long time and once I picked a topic, I couldn't stop writing. My books are very special to me because in some aspect I have had experience in the subject matter one way or another. I love reading romance but I like the main male lead to be a real bad boy, not one who thinks they are bad.

I live in Michigan with my husband and three fur babies! I can be found taking my dog for walks all over town or in a quiet corner reading. I have two degrees in history and criminal justice from a small private college in Michigan where I also joined a sorority.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me and I would be happy to answer any questions or filter in suggestions.

Smite (Lockdown Series Book 2)

****You asked for it! Be careful for what you wish for, because you just might get it! Smite is no-hold's-bar! This book takes off where we left off in Cuffed.

GRANT*

They just took her. They just took her from me and now I can't find her anywhere. Who just takes a federal agent off of the face of the earth and stash them some place? The FBI. What's worse than that? Howard's missing too. I knew that he couldn't wait for me to mess up so he could swoop in and take my girl. Some partner he was.

I've got Kayla living with me now. She's due to have my baby in a few months and I'm trying to focus on her. It's just not working out the way that it should. I keep thinking about Chloe and I can't stop her.

When I find out where Chloe is and that she's pregnant with my babies? All hell is about to break lose.

HOWARD*

I've finally got Chloe right where I want her and that's in my arms. Yeah, her being pregnant with Grant's babies isn't ideal, but I'm not ready to give her up. Not ever. When Grant comes showing up right after I get Chloe to give me a chance, I begin to worry. It's too soon to ask her to pick me like that.

CHLOE*

It's never been a choice as to who I should pick. It goes down to what is right and what is wrong. I'm a horrible person since I'm pregnant and I'm going to continue with the investigation. I have been waiting for something like this forever and I'm not letting anything get in my way from it.

But...

Howard is being the perfect guy and I can tell by the way he's looking at me that he's begging me to be with him.

Regardless of any of that, I'm here for a job. I'm here to bring down the Russian Sex Trafficking Ring in Las Vegas. Too bad Grant is about to mess all of that up!

*********Author's Note!
TRIGGER WARNINGS! If you have certain triggers, do not read this book.

Review

After reading and reviewing the author's first book, Cuffed, I decided to give a second chance by reading the next installment in the series, Smite.

The author tried to take a unique approach to the story by taking it from three different character perspectives. While I appreciate the attempt at a creative approach, it was not done successfully. Part of the problem with it was that there were three character perspectives and also added in a Then vs Now perspective with each one rather than tell the story as a constant stream leading up to the "Now" moments. It became very confusing especially when reading and you have a Chloe Now chapter that is immediately followed up with a Chloe Then Chapter.

The second piece that drove me away from the story was the actual plot, or lack there of. For a book labeled Crime Fiction or Mystery, there wasn't much of it. The plot was greatly overshadowed by the love triangle of Howard, Chloe, and Grant. Most of the book was spent on Grant being pissed off he wasn't with Chloe, Howard obsessing over Chloe and Chloe deciding it was smart to sleep with the best friend to the guy she just broke up with. All of this happens while she's infiltrating a sex-trafficking ring. There's not much time devoted to the actual investigation or even her involvement with the sex-traffickers other than the occasional chapter that appeared every once and a while.

While the ending did give a sense of peace to the story, I was not a big fan of it. There was no real emotion or depth to the characters, and definitely did not depict how anyone would react given the horrific ordeal Chloe went through in the book.
