Book Tour: Betrayed by the Ocean by Christine Steendam

Synopsis:

Sometimes you gotta get a little lost to be found.
Brant Foxton won the girl, gained a legitimate life, and created a family for himself. But when his happily-ever-after comes crashing down he turns to the only thing he knows to try and find himself: the ocean.
Cutting ties with everyone he ever cared about, Brant begins a journey that he hopes will bring him back to the path he once walked, only to become more lost than ever.
Now he must learn to trust again and look for hope outside of his beloved ocean or his life may just come to an abrupt close at the end of a noose.

About the Author:

Christine Steendam is the award-winning romance author of the Foremost Chronicles and the Ocean Series. She also flirts with sci-fi and comic book writing and is a yearly participant in NaNoWriMo.
Christine makes her home in Manitoba, Canada on a sprawling 15 acre ranch with her husband, two young sons, and a brood of animals including Guinness, her beloved chocolate quarter horse, Beau, her St Bernard/Golden Retriever cross, and a gaggle of barn kittens.

The Interview

Let’s get to know you a little more. Tell us a about yourself.

I’m a mom of two very busy young boys who keep me on my toes. We live on a 15 acre hobby ranch with horses, dogs and cats. I joke around to my husband that he married into a zoo with all the animals and kids, but we love it (or at least I do lol, and my husband very graciously puts up with it all).

What inspired you to write?

I’ve always been creative. As a kid I was never one to sit in front of the TV or computer. I spent hours reading or playing outside. And when I played it was always fantastical settings. Our bikes were horses, a set of trees was a magical forest. Hay bales a castle. Sticks were swords. I think it was only natural that I turn my imagination from play into writing.

Tell me a little about your book Betrayed by the Ocean.

Betrayed by the Ocean is the second full-length novel of the Ocean series. It is set to be a trilogy of three full-length novels, plus a few novella side-stories and a prequel. Book two takes us on a journey with Brant Foxton, the enigmatic privateer from Owned by the Ocean (prequel) and Heart Like an Ocean (book 1). His happily-ever-after has fallen apart and he turns back to his life on the sea to try and find himself. However, he loses himself even more along the way, makes some huge mistakes, and has to hit rock-bottom to find his way back again.

Who has been your greatest writing inspiration?

Oscar Wilde is my hero when it comes to dialogue. It’s so snappy and witty, a level I have not yet achieved but keep working towards. I’m also greatly inspired by the romance in Jane Austin’s work, the tragedy by Charlotte Bronte, JRR Tolkien’s adventures… I could go on and on.

Now a little more about you: If you were stranded on a desert island, what three items would you bring (excluding family, laptop, or writing utensils)?

My favorite book, Pride and Prejudice, a knife, and a pot to collect and boil water/cook with.
We find out the world is going to end tomorrow. How do you live your last day?
Riding my horse, spending time with family and friends.
.
If we were to make a movie of your life. Who would play the part of you?

That’s tough. There are so many actresses that I would love to play me, but I’m not sure they would be a good fit. If I could choose anyone, though, I’d probably choose Scarlet Johanson because she’s just awesome.

Tell us 5 random things about yourself.

1.      I’d rather camp than stay at a 5 star resort.
2.      I’m the most stubborn person I know lol.
3.      I get claustrophobic while snorkeling.
4.      My perfect evening consists of sitting around a bonfire with good friends and family, drinking rum and laughing with my dog at my side.
5.      I hate cooking, but I’m a bit of a health nut so I grudgingly do it lol.

What are the three places you have always wanted to visit but have not yet?

Spain, Scotland, and the Canadian east coast.

Okay, crystal ball time. Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?

Honestly, I see life being pretty much the same as it is now. I’ll still be living on my ranch, I’ll still be surrounded by animals, my kids will be a bit older, I’ll be a bit wiser, by then I’d hope to be making a living at this writing thing, but I’ll still be writing regardless. I’m pretty happy with my life and I hope it just moves forward at a natural progression.

Do you have any questions for me?

What’s your favorite genre to read?

I like all different types of genres. It always depends on the plot more than the genre. Although, I do have a special place in my heart for mysteries, suspense, thrillers.
