Valentines Day Book Blitz: Cross Examination by Denise Moncrief

Day8
14 Days of Romance Valentine's Day Book Blitz Event
Let's mix things up a bit by adding some suspense to all our romance with Cross Examination.

Synopsis
No longer able to tolerate her husband Scott’s abuse, Tamara Slay packs up her daughter, Gabby, and moves to Louisiana, hoping a new life and a new identity will give her a fresh start. An unexpected phone call from a Sheriff’s deputy in Florida shatters her sense of security. Scott hides a much darker secret than abusing his wife. Above all else, she must protect Gabby from Scott.

Lt. Martin Beck of the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Department has been investigating the death of Brandy Fuller for years. Sidetracked for a while by his wife’s murder, Beck finally reopens the cold Fuller case and discovers a thin lead. The new evidence takes him to Louisiana to meet the estranged wife of his primary suspect. Together, Beck and Tamara conclude that Scott not only murdered Brandy Fuller, but seven other women on the Florida Gulf coast.

As Beck dives deeper into the investigation, he draws closer to Tamara. Passions ignite as the one woman who wants Scott dead the most allies with the one man who wants Scott dead the most. Can Beck protect Tamara and Gabby from Scott and stop a serial killer from killing again?

Snippet #1
She never doubted the man in her house was Scott. She could almost smell his menace. His voice crawled all over her—a voice she had hoped never to hear again. She yanked the door open and rushed into the dark hours of the morning, her child clutched to her chest, the weight of her purse and the paperwork in the tote pulling on her arm. She didn’t bother to slam the door behind her.

Now that you know a little about the book we are so excited to let you get to know a little about Denise.

Denise is a Southern girl who has lived in Louisiana all her life, and yes, she has a drawl. She has a wonderful husband and two incredible children, who not only endure her writing moods, but also encourage her to indulge her writing passion. Besides writing romantic suspense, she enjoys traveling, reading, and scrapbooking.

Accounting is a skill she has learned to earn a little money to support her writing habit. She wrote her first story when she was a teen, seventeen handwritten pages on school-ruled paper and an obvious rip-off of the last romance novel she had read. She's been writing off and on ever since, and with more than a few full-length manuscripts already completed, she has no desire to slow down.

Check out all her pages too.

Book Tour: Betrayed by the Ocean by Christine Steendam

Synopsis:

Sometimes you gotta get a little lost to be found.
Brant Foxton won the girl, gained a legitimate life, and created a family for himself. But when his happily-ever-after comes crashing down he turns to the only thing he knows to try and find himself: the ocean.
Cutting ties with everyone he ever cared about, Brant begins a journey that he hopes will bring him back to the path he once walked, only to become more lost than ever.
Now he must learn to trust again and look for hope outside of his beloved ocean or his life may just come to an abrupt close at the end of a noose.

About the Author:

Christine Steendam is the award-winning romance author of the Foremost Chronicles and the Ocean Series. She also flirts with sci-fi and comic book writing and is a yearly participant in NaNoWriMo.
Christine makes her home in Manitoba, Canada on a sprawling 15 acre ranch with her husband, two young sons, and a brood of animals including Guinness, her beloved chocolate quarter horse, Beau, her St Bernard/Golden Retriever cross, and a gaggle of barn kittens.

The Interview

Let’s get to know you a little more. Tell us a about yourself.

I’m a mom of two very busy young boys who keep me on my toes. We live on a 15 acre hobby ranch with horses, dogs and cats. I joke around to my husband that he married into a zoo with all the animals and kids, but we love it (or at least I do lol, and my husband very graciously puts up with it all).

What inspired you to write?

I’ve always been creative. As a kid I was never one to sit in front of the TV or computer. I spent hours reading or playing outside. And when I played it was always fantastical settings. Our bikes were horses, a set of trees was a magical forest. Hay bales a castle. Sticks were swords. I think it was only natural that I turn my imagination from play into writing.

Tell me a little about your book Betrayed by the Ocean.

Betrayed by the Ocean is the second full-length novel of the Ocean series. It is set to be a trilogy of three full-length novels, plus a few novella side-stories and a prequel. Book two takes us on a journey with Brant Foxton, the enigmatic privateer from Owned by the Ocean (prequel) and Heart Like an Ocean (book 1). His happily-ever-after has fallen apart and he turns back to his life on the sea to try and find himself. However, he loses himself even more along the way, makes some huge mistakes, and has to hit rock-bottom to find his way back again.

Who has been your greatest writing inspiration?

Oscar Wilde is my hero when it comes to dialogue. It’s so snappy and witty, a level I have not yet achieved but keep working towards. I’m also greatly inspired by the romance in Jane Austin’s work, the tragedy by Charlotte Bronte, JRR Tolkien’s adventures… I could go on and on.

Now a little more about you: If you were stranded on a desert island, what three items would you bring (excluding family, laptop, or writing utensils)?

My favorite book, Pride and Prejudice, a knife, and a pot to collect and boil water/cook with.
We find out the world is going to end tomorrow. How do you live your last day?
Riding my horse, spending time with family and friends.
.
If we were to make a movie of your life. Who would play the part of you?

That’s tough. There are so many actresses that I would love to play me, but I’m not sure they would be a good fit. If I could choose anyone, though, I’d probably choose Scarlet Johanson because she’s just awesome.

Tell us 5 random things about yourself.

1.      I’d rather camp than stay at a 5 star resort.
2.      I’m the most stubborn person I know lol.
3.      I get claustrophobic while snorkeling.
4.      My perfect evening consists of sitting around a bonfire with good friends and family, drinking rum and laughing with my dog at my side.
5.      I hate cooking, but I’m a bit of a health nut so I grudgingly do it lol.

What are the three places you have always wanted to visit but have not yet?

Spain, Scotland, and the Canadian east coast.

Okay, crystal ball time. Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?

Honestly, I see life being pretty much the same as it is now. I’ll still be living on my ranch, I’ll still be surrounded by animals, my kids will be a bit older, I’ll be a bit wiser, by then I’d hope to be making a living at this writing thing, but I’ll still be writing regardless. I’m pretty happy with my life and I hope it just moves forward at a natural progression.

Do you have any questions for me?

What’s your favorite genre to read?

I like all different types of genres. It always depends on the plot more than the genre. Although, I do have a special place in my heart for mysteries, suspense, thrillers.

Valentines Day Book Blitz: Moonlight by Ann Hunter

Day 3
Moonlight
By Ann Hunter

The Swan Princess is an amazing tale of sacrifice and standing up for whats right. This is very similar, but in many ways VERY different!

Book Blurb:

Moonlight, the WHITNEY AWARD NOMINATED prequel to The Subtle Beauty (free on Amazon), is the book critics are calling "Kind of ethereal", "...a fairytale world that will steal your heart and fuel your imagination".
In this fractured retelling of THE SWAN PRINCESS, one girl will sacrifice much to save her family.
When her mother dies, Aowyn vows to protect her brothers and father from the conniving Ciatlllait who is bent on usurping the throne and the kingdom. To do this, Aowyn makes a deal with the twisted creature Sylas Mortas, only realizing too late that breathing a word of their bargain will kill her swan brothers. Will she be able to wait out the 1,000 moons the steep price of the deal requires with war and romance on the horizon?
Find out in MOONLIGHT.

SNIPPET 2:
Xander grabbed the flat sides of the blade and yanked, pulling Aowyn down on top of him.
The soldiers gibed and teasingly requested that the two continue their dance in private. They began to dissipate, arguing over who owed what bet to who.
Aowyn blushed furiously. She sat up and glared at a nearly-unrecognizable Xander. He pried her sword from her and attempted to catch her hand.
Aowyn pushed away from him and wiped the mud from her palms.
The young man found his feet. He breathed quickly, excited by their bout. He stepped toward her. “Tell me your name.”
She glared at him, but deep inside she felt invigorated and secretly a little giddy. She shook her head.
Xander exhaled forcefully. “What shall I call you then?”
Aowyn placed her hands on her hips and cocked her head to the side.
The corner of Xander’s mouth turned upward. “Peerless Paramour.”
She rolled her eyes and walked away from him. Xander followed.
“My heart’s gleam,” he suggested.
Aowyn ignored him. Why did he behave this way? They hardly knew each other. She stifled a smirk.
“Queen of my dreams,” Xander declared.
Aowyn paused and turned to him. His eyes widened as she strode forward. She sidled up to him and ran a finger along his jaw. Xander’s knees quaked. The princess knocked him over like a feather.
Xander’s hands went to his heart as if to protect it. He sighed as she walked away. “Shield maiden.”
