Book Review: Dream On By Anne Conley

About the Author:

Anne has written her entire life and has the boxes of angst-filled journals and poetry to prove it. She's been writing for public consumption for the last four years. Currently she is writing two romance series. In Stories of Serendipity, she explores real people living real lives in small town Texas in a contemporary romance setting. In The Four Winds, she chronicles God's four closest archangels, Uriel, Gabriel, Raphael, and Michael, falling in love and becoming human. She lives in rural East Texas with her husband and children in her own private oasis, where she prides herself in her complete lack of social skills, choosing instead to live with the people inside her head.

Synopsis:

Welcome to Serendipity, Texas, a town where real people deal with real problems. Meet characters in their thirties and forties struggling with day-to-day issues and managing to find love in the process. Visit Serendipity, where the days are hot, and the nights are steamy!

Alyssa has a hard time keeping up with her responsibilities, and she's has a lot: her elderly mother, both kids, her high school students, and of course, herself. When she starts dreaming of a handsome bad boy living a kinky lifestyle, she wonders what in the world her subconscious is telling her. She barely has time for her own life, much less one involving a guy with those kinds of appetites.

Dalton has been living life on the edge for too long. When he begins dreaming of a woman from his hometown, Serendipity, he initially thinks it's something inside him, letting him know it's time to settle down. When his dad gets sick, and Dalton has to move back home to take care of the family ranch, he realizes his dream girl is a reality.

Sparks fly in this sizzling novel that explores love and lust in a small town setting, complete with ex-husbands, high school football, and nosy school boards.

Review:

I have read quite a few books by Anne Conley and love her stories. The initial premise of this book is a little far fetched, but very creative. Alyssa and Dalton live two entirely different lives in different towns. They had never met, but are dreaming about the other and watching how the other lives through their dreams. I didn't know how to perceive the book, but knew there was something special about it. I found myself diving deeper into it and could not put it down. I loved every minute of it and am becoming a big fan of the Stories of Serendipity Series.

Book Review: The Path to You By Melanie Macek

About the Author:

Melanie Macek is a transplanted Californian desert rat living in Texas. She and her husband are owned by two Bombay cats - Murphy (Smurph) and Charlie (Midget). Luckily her husband shares her love of travel and they are slowly checking off destinations. Many vacations have turned into story ideas. Vacation ideas are welcome!

After trying her hand at poetry, song writing, and short stories, she started writing her first novel after the death of her mother. The urge to commit words to paper became undeniable, though life and work frequently put it on the back burner. It took 14 years to complete that first novel and another 4 to edit and fine tune it enough to release. Melanie currently writes contemporary romance but would love to eventually write historical romances. Her love of history does show up somewhat in her contemporary novels, so keep an eye out for tiny tidbits of trivia.

Synopsis:

Elena Tinsmann is one semester away from graduating with her history degree. Her parents inform her she must start planning a wedding - her own. She learns she’s engaged to the one person who’s hurt her most; someone she used to call a friend.

Alec Herr appears to have everything: heir to the family business along with prestige and standing in the community. It’s the last thing he wants. When he finds out about the arranged marriage to Elena, he sees it as a chance to follow his own path

Review:

The premise of this story was something I was very unfamiliar with. For starters, arranged marriages are not something people are used to hearing about, let alone read about . Typically I associated them with marriages that occurred hundreds of years ago, but can be rarely found in some cultures today. The one thing I didn't like about the book was it took a while to figure out if the story took place a long time ago or was current. There were a few minor errors in the story, but it's not something I'm going to nitpick over.

The story itself was well written, very descriptive and kept me glued to every page. The dynamic of the two characters Elena and Alec was a constant wave of hot and cold and with just cause. I won't give away anything specific, but I will say this was a surprising take on a romance novel with powerful characters that you will remember for quite some time.
