Campus Killer Book Reviews.

The Reviews have been pouring in this last week. In case you missed them, here are what people have been saying about my new book Campus Killer.

Ali Ryan has dreamed of being a hot shot detective that solves high profile cases. Her love for crime novels and police dramas was her inspiration to become a cop, but it was her pushy demeanor and sassy impulsive attitude that earned her the detective promotion she coveted. But is your dream job worth sacrificing the ones you love?

The fall semester for New Paltz has begun complete with a dead body turning up in the dorms. Police claim the case is open and shut, but Detective Ali Ryan doesn’t think so. She throws herself into the case desperately searching for answers as the death toll on campus rises; each made to look like a suicide.

With Ali getting closer to uncovering the truth, the killer wants to make his attacks more personal. His sights are set on Detective Ryan and her sister. Police are forced to place them under their protection, but Ali is determined to hunt down the killer and stop him before he kills again. But how far is Detective Ryan willing to go to protect her sister and take down the sadistic killer?

The Reviews:

5-Star
This is a fast paced book and a quick read.  From the first pages you wonder what type of man the protagonist is, and why he may be doing what he's doing.  While Ali becomes a main character and quite intriguing one finds themselves wondering what the real motive of the killer is, and what could have led him to such extremes.

5-Star

I really enjoyed this book. It kept me on my toes and kept me guessing. It was clean but definitely filled with tension and moments happiness alike. It definitely kept you involved both for the content of the story and emotionally. I kept thinking I had things figured out when there would be another plot twist I did not see coming. It wasn't scary, but definitely had tension where you would wonder and hope that the killer would be caught or that someone may or may not be saved in time. It's crazy how invested I got in this story and I'm so anxious for the next book to come out. I would recommend this to anyone, easily! It's a great story!

5.0 out of 5 stars Campus Killer A Real Page Turner!, January 6, 2015
This review is from: The Campus Killer (Detective Ali Ryan Series Book 1) (Kindle Edition)
Campus Killer was a real page turner. From the first page, readers anticipate what will happen to the Detective Ali Ryan as she chases all over the sleepy college town of New Paltz, NY. At times, readers will be able to see the very human side of a cop as well as become engrossed in her personal life. The antagonist was a very sadistic and no holds barred killer. Not much was said about the killer and what really happened to make him into a killer, but I believe that the author, Andrew Hess, must come out with a sequel to Campus Killer to help readers understand the character better. After reading Campus Killer I am sure readers will come to the same conclusion.

What I Did Not Like:
The author made several one page chapters that could very easily have been in the previous chapter so as not to break the chapter's continuity. Not enough backstory on who was really pulling the strings on the Campus Killer.

What I Did Like:
Andrew Hess was able to write from a woman's point of view and the readers will get their fill of Detective Ali Ryan’s assertive and aggressive behaviors.

This book was provided by the author for review purposes only.

This review is from: The Campus Killer (Detective Ali Ryan Series Book 1) (Kindle Edition)
One of my favorite things about signing up for blog tours is discovering new authors that will forever be added to my favorites list. And Andrew Hess has been added.

This story has it all, a fascinating plot to keep you glued to the book, strong leading characters, and enough realism that you can relate to what is going on. It is an all around heart read from me.

Author Andrew Hess captivated me from the moment I started reading this story. I loved how he moved between the heroine Ali Ryan’s point of view and the killers. Getting lost in both of their heads as they tried to outsmart one another was thrilling. This book is an absolute page turner as Ali Ryan chase after the killer. I could not help but gasp and hold my breath during a few of the scenes.

Ali Ryan is a strong leading lady that did not let everyone else’s comments detour her from what her gut told her. The suicides where not just ‘suicides’ like everyone thought they were murders and she would prove it. I could not read fast enough as she pieced the puzzle together and proved to everyone else she was not crazy.

The killer (I do not want to give things away) did not make many flaws as he picked off the students. But what mistakes he made is what kept Ali motivated that she was not crazy.
I am always fascinated with why people kill and think they will never get caught. More times than not there are detectives like Ali on the cases that never gives up.

You can tell that the author did his research with this story. I loved the extra detail he added and the twist and turns I did not see coming. That is what I loved most about this story. Andrew Hess fed us breadcrumbs the entire story that we had to piece together.

I loved the ending of this story and cannot wait to read more by Andrew Hess.

Ali Ryan has dreamt of being a detective that solves high profile cases. Her love for crime novels and police dramas was her inspiration to become a cop. Her pushy demeanor and bad attitude that cost her the detective promotion she covets.

I was given a FREE copy of Campus Killer in exchange for a honest review

This book receives a 4 out of 5 on the boredom scale YAY!!!!

I really really enjoyed this book!

This is a story of a man who wants revenge. He has a list and he has a plan. He goes and kills the first girl… (not a bad way to go (no spoilers here) Everyone thinks it was an accident.

The second murder the detective Ali starts noticing things. Things that don’t add up. She starts yelling about MURDER! Her lieutenant thinks shes crazy and tells her to drop it.

She ropes her partner Rodney into believing it is a murder and not suicides. They work on their own time and behind the mans back. They come up with enough to take back to the man and he thinks hmmm it could be murder.

The story goes on and there is four murders planned altogether. He does them all. Through this entire book I kept saying ok he is this man ok no hes doing it because of this. I honestly have to say I could not guess at the ending and I can usually guess pretty quickly.

Why only 4 stars then I HATE CLIFFHANGERS! This book has one. So now I have to twiddle my thumbs and wait till the next book comes out to find out who and why and the where and ewww I hate when authors do this too me. No cant do that this really was an awesome read!

Mr Hess you did an excellent job!! Thank you for this incredible read!!

Campus Killer by Andrew Hess
****
I found the concept of the story riveting, drawing you in and making you wonder what would happen next. There are some inconsistencies in tense usage and incorrect wording throughout the story which caused me to deduct a star, especially the fact that it seems nobody speaks, they all shout. But in general, I really did enjoy the story. The epilogue was fitting as it tied the seeming end of the story to just enough of a scene to whet your appetite for book two. The last chapter and epilogue was also the ultimate in plot twists. Ali seemed realistic as did her sister and her partner. If you enjoy crime novels and suspense, and can read books for their story despite flaws, this is a book for you.

Campus Killer by Andrew Hess Review

Deaths occur on a college campus. They are almost dismissed as suicides, but for the insistence of one detective that insists there has to be more to it--The matter of how much more is revealed slowly, page after page.
This book was written in the unique perspective of two points of view, showing the talent of the author using both male and female viewpoints of the campus killer and the detective working to solve the cases.
The killer ( Nick/Mark ) is a functioning member in society, albeit an awkward one. A look inside his twisted mind and sense of justice is all the proof needed.
Detective Ali Ryan, is no nonsense, leagues ahead off her peers in crime solving and will not stop until the bad guy is behind bars!

What I most enjoyed about this book was reading both sides of the stories from each of the characters.

What I least enjoyed about this book was getting sidetracked by parallel characters or storylines while trying to stay connected to each chapter and which character it belonged to.

Though I received this book in exchange for a review, the opinions expressed here are mine, and mine alone.

Campus Killer (Detective Ali Ryan #1) by Andrew Hess

3 Stars

When Rachel Walker is found dead in her room on campus, Ali, a local detective isn’t convinced it’s a simple ‘alcohol induced, choking on vomit’ case. Suspecting that there is something more sinister going on she searches for answers. More bodies show up concreting her suspicions, but her persistence in finding the killer puts not only her, but also her sister in danger when they too become targets of the unidentified threat.

Campus killer is a quick read with unusually short chapters. I have to admit the chapter lengths threw me off a little, it interrupted the flow of my reading and I wasn’t sure if it was necessary to split the book up like this, especially since it wasn’t always done to switch perspective. I also became irritated by the excessive use of proper nouns in some area’s, there was a specific section where Mark’s name was used over and over when it was clear who the author was referring to.

The cat and mouse feeling the story had was exciting at times and had me invested in the story enough to keep reading to the end, though I still have some questions I assume they will be addressed in the next instalment of the series.
