Book Review: Falling for Faith by Anne Conley

Synopsis:

In this, the fourth book in the Four Winds Series, the story is more intense, Damien is more intense, the sex is more intense. The entire series thus far has escalated into this, the archangel of war's story.

The Review:

This was the last of the Four Winds to fall from grace. This book had more suspense than the others did from the beginning which hooked me instantly. Like the other books in this series, the amount of detail was impeccable and had me visualizing everything as if I was watching a movie or TV show, which I would love to watch. This one was a little more graphic than the rest, which I enjoyed. It showed how different it would be from the others and really focused on the bond between Michael and Faith. The one thing I felt that was strongly missing was the epic battle between Michael and Damien. I was hoping for something more between them, but seeing how the story ended, it made sense for how the story played out.

Review

Hot Mess was definitely the best way to describe the characters, but was very thankful that the overall story did not reflect the title. Both Sam and Rachel's characters were very well described to a point where I felt like I knew them or was watching a movie of their lives play out before my eyes. Rachel was the reserved small town girl that was hiding a big secret. Sam was her perfect counterpart. He was rough and dominant, but did his best to treat Rachel like a lady. Things started out rough between them, but was brought together because of their daughters.

The key point of this story focused more on Rachel's life. She was a woman battling a serious illness, yet fought it with everything she had in order to live her life and raise her daughter. But that was hard for her to do when her own family disowns her based on her disease. But Rachel never gives up and uses her website to help others battling the same disease. I thought this was what made this story unique and separated it from all other romance books. Not only did it discuss HIV, but it also educated us as well.

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. Now this is the type of story I have been wanting to read for a long time! I was immediately hooked during the first page and read it in one setting! I couldn't put it down. I will keep this short and sweet so I don't give any spoilers away, but do yourself a favor and read this book!

This intense detective story takes a different turn from the majority of murder mysteries. The first character we meet is a serial killer as he plans his first murder. With his POV and that of the lead detective, Ali, we have a front row seat in the mental machinations of Mark and the inquiring mind of Ali as she tries to fit the clues together.

The pace was fast moving, keeping the reader on the edge of their seat. As the story nears the end, drama increases tenfold with twists and turns in a breathless manner. The last chapter has a bomb blast that was unexpected but is understandable in hindsight. Ends like a Hitchcock movie. Excellent plot and development of characters; mystery and suspense unpredictable and engaging. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. Five Stars.

Campus Killer by Andrew Hess

I love reading different genres of books but very rarely do I read a good crime mystery, until now.

Campus Killer is absolutely brilliant. Set around a college campus where nothing bad has ever happened, when suddenly there is a spate of suicides.

Detective Ali investigating the apparent suicides, has a feeling that not all is right and there is more to these people dying.

This is a very intense story, I like how you read from the killers POV you kind of get why the killer is doing what the killer is doing but not the actual reason that's behind murdering these people.

Detective Ali is a hotshot cop promoted to Detective although still quite young, she is a very strong character and won't take any crap.

While reading this book I just couldn't help but feel it should be a movie or tv program it would be amazing. It reminded me of watching CSI or NCIS. It kept me on the edge of my seat and had me shouting at some of the scenes in the book.
Best of all is there is a great big twist and you never see it coming not even a hint of it.
I'm so excited for the next part as the ending is one bloody great big cliffhanger.

This had elements of romance in it, but the primary focus was the suspense, which was well done. Mr. Hess has pulled together a chilling story of revenge from the madman's perspective and his final descent into lunacy. Told in multiple POVs, in first person from the detective as she unravels the clues, and third person from the killer as well as various other characters, it is a risky writing style, but done effectively. In fact, Mr. Hess is as effective with this technique as some of the bigger names in the genre.

This was an enjoyable read, and lovely departure from my norm. There were a few typos/editing mistakes that could have been improved upon, but they didn't detract too much from the story, in my opinion.

Being a religious person, I thought I might have trouble reading this book. I was pleasantly surprised to see how well this story turned out. It wasn't anything like I thought. Uriel, was the Archangel of Destiny and roamed the earth bringing people to their destiny. When he met his new assignment, he never expected that he was helping more than one person reach their destiny. I won't give too much of the plot away, but I did find the way the plot was illustrated to be incredibly well done and thought out. I couldn't help but be drawn to the story and to find out what happened with Uriel and Heather (a.k.a. Heaven). The description was visually enticing to the point where I felt that I was right there in the story or watching a movie take place before my eyes. I thought this was one of the better romance books that I have read as of late and am looking forward to the rest of this series.

This is book 5 in the series. Despite coming into the series a bit late in the game, author Alex Lukeman makes sure to keep readers informed of events that happened in the past books. I loved the writing style. The chapters were short and to the point which helped keep the focus and it was non-stop action in the beginning. However, the book lost some of its momentum halfway through and picked up closer to the end. If this book indicates how the other books have been and the next books in the series will be, I think the series would make for a great read.

It's back...

It has been four long and cold months since I last posted. Now that winter is just about over and spring is vastly approaching, I have decided to come out of hibernation and hit hard with the Writer's Revolution.

Over the next few weeks I will be bringing you updates about some of our past guests as we launch into our spring reading series where I will be reviewing and interviewing authors and their books (1 or 2 reviews a month).
