Review
Hot Mess was definitely the best way to describe the characters, but was very thankful that the overall story did not reflect the title. Both Sam and Rachel's characters were very well described to a point where I felt like I knew them or was watching a movie of their lives play out before my eyes. Rachel was the reserved small town girl that was hiding a big secret. Sam was her perfect counterpart. He was rough and dominant, but did his best to treat Rachel like a lady. Things started out rough between them, but was brought together because of their daughters.
The key point of this story focused more on Rachel's life. She was a woman battling a serious illness, yet fought it with everything she had in order to live her life and raise her daughter. But that was hard for her to do when her own family disowns her based on her disease. But Rachel never gives up and uses her website to help others battling the same disease. I thought this was what made this story unique and separated it from all other romance books. Not only did it discuss HIV, but it also educated us as well.
